The gallery was founded in 1980 and since then brings in monthly changing exhibitions of various artists work. Beukenhof derived its name from the adjacent beech forests that are part of the regional landscape and the Flemish Ardennes, Hainaut northern hill region. The street where the gallery is located, was also named to the annual flagship event sports, especially the "Tour of Flanders". The street is also the memorial of its founder Charles Wijnendaele to visit
